One of the cool perks of working for a sex toy store is being able to go to the adult events. One of my favorite events is the Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas. It’s actually one of the (if not THE) biggest adult events out there. The event deals mostly with movie studios and their films, but there’s also a variety of sex toy businesses, pay per view outfits and other little goodie groups to mingle and get autographs from.
When I first went there in 2007, I was (and I still am) a huge fan of Wicked Pictures. There’s just something about how that company presents itself and its performers that just says ‘first class’. It also helps that they have a hot roster of actors and actresses. So when I went there, I wasn’t surprised to see that Wicked has this awesome booth setup right in the middle of the show floor complete with lighting and large video screens that was playing a combination of movie clips and this short video about how glamorous Wicked Pictures is as an operation.
Now the show itself can be overwhelming for someone who goes for the first time. The long lines, the flash bulbs, the different shows, the SWAG, the pictures, the stars, the autographs, etc — all of this comes into play on one show floor and you have to find a way around the ‘maze’ and get to see your favorite people. I must tell you that you WILL wait in long lines for the more popular stars — know that know and wear comfortable shoes.
Last year, when I went, I was helping out the Zeus Electrosex people demonstrate their products to people in the business-to-business portion of the show. This takes place on the bottom floor and is only open to businesses and buyers. It’s a chance to conduct such business without the worry of fans getting in the way. From what I understand, they used to have everything combined, but you couldn’t hear anything over the sound of the guy screaming “My, there’s a lotta pussy in here!”
Demonstrating Zeus Electrosex was fun in that electrosex, in itself, is a pretty taboo thing. People can associate that with all kinds of stigmatic things, but the Zeus people have really managed to make it accessible, affordable and non-threatening. You can find out information about their products by visiting their website (click here) or buying some of their products (click here).
By the way, I’m listening to Seal right now as I type this. Anyone else think this man can sing his ass off!?
So if you’re ever in the Las Vegas area during January and would like the chance to meet your favorite adult stars, the AVN Expo is definitely worth at least one visit. Oh, the other funny thing is that the AVN Show is around the same time as the Consumer Electronics Expo. In fact, both events take place about 50 feet from each other. I love how they have to put up signs that say “Having a badge for one event, doesn’t qualify you for entry into the other event.” I think that applies more to the CES attendees than the AVN folks, haha.
So if you’ve been to either event or plan to go one of these days, feel free to leave a comment about that. Ask me questions about what it’s like to be there and I’ll be more than happy to share other experiences that I’ve had. I plan to attend again this coming January =)

Ok, I want your opinion(s) about Healthy and Active. What do you think of the colors, the layout, the design. Feel free to go ahead and pick it apart. The store can only get better the more we know about what YOU feel about it. The goal of any good business is to create an environment that’s inviting, exciting and enticing for customers.
So in essence “Does this store make our butt look big?”

{Mr. Mahboh; H&A Marketing speaks:}
First off, you’ve been reading posts, but you haven’t gotten to know the guy behind some of them. For the purposes of this blog, you can call me Mahboh — it’s one of the Japanese variations of my actual name and I’m sure you’ll have a much more enjoyable time using that. I’m the retail marketing guy here at Healthy and Active. Yes, I agree the past few posts have had their mechanical sound to it and that’s because I was feeling out the best way to approach this blog.
Now that I’ve gotten a better grasp of this journal writing thing, it’s time for me to let my hair down. Well, that’s technically not true because I shave my head every weekend, but you know what I mean.
The purpose of Active and Informed is to be this frank and friendly discussion of sex, sexuality and sex toys. I hope that in the time we spend together that I not only show you some great things you can use in your everyday (or is that every night) sex life, but I hope to learn a great deal from all of you as well.
I want you to feel free to comment on whatever’s written: past, present and future. Let’s start a dialogue, talk and conversate.
So getting to the title of this post. One of the great things that I enjoy reading in my office downtime is America Unzipped on MSNBC. The writer does these great articles about Americans and their approaches to different forms of sexuality. The author of those articles has just completed a book which is essentially the best of his written articles for the online segment.
One of his articles dealt with BDSM and how it’s not a series of super strange people just beating each other up and having orgasms. Quite to that contrary, they are a society of smart individuals who can use the power of pain, pleasure, manipulation and humiliation in the same way that most of us use sex toys to get ourselves off.
I invite you to read that article and then come back here and tell me what you think.
